Why is my radiator fan running when my RX-8 is off?

The RX-8 has sensors that monitor coolant temps and switch on one or both of the radiator fans based on the requirements of the car.

If you park your car and switch it off, and the coolant temperatures are above a preset limit, the car will enable the electric radiator fans. Typically they will shut off within 5 minutes, but this will vary since it will shut off when the temps are no longer too extreme.

If the fans are running, and you turn the key to the on position (without starting the engine), then turn the car off, the fans will stop running. I highly recommend you do NOT do this though, since the car is trying to prevent heat damage.

I remember when I was driving around in 100+ degree weather, I noticed the fans were still on. Mazda did a very good job on getting this car to last as long as possible.
